Welcome back to another new school year! Mrs. Bogale and I are looking forward to seeing what great books you will read this year! We have a few more weeks for summer reading so keep on putting in those minutes. So far, Bullard Bulldogs have read over 181,000 minutes! Wow that's a lot of books! Right now, we are in 8th place in Cobb County and minutes are counted until Sept. 3 so keep on reading!
You'll notice some changes in the Media Center this year. The reading area is even bigger this year! Cobb County has added quite a few e-books to our collection and our blue cart of new books is just about to overflow! We are also waiting on a few more books to come in so there's lots to choose from!
Media Center orientations started this week and students are already checking out. Kindergarten can check out 1 book, grades 1 through 5 can check out 2 books or magazines plus 1 e-book (for a total of 3). All books are checked out for 2 weeks. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We also welcome parent volunteers if you have some extra time. The only requirement is to know your ABC's!!
Thanks for your support of our Bullard Media Center!
Bullard welcomed students from McClure Middle School as guest readers to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Day! Over 25 Middle-schoolers got up extra-early to come and read with our K,1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. Thanks to Mrs. Harpin at McClure for her help in organizing this fun event!
The Media Center staff and the PTSA would like to say a big THANKS to all of you who came out to the book fair!! Lots of kids got some great books to read and lots of teachers were able to add to their classroom libraries! As you may know, the book fair raises money for PTSA, which supports all students at Bullard. The Media Center also receives a portion of the proceeds.
Keep your ears open for our next book fair in the Spring- just in time to get you ready for summer reading!! Tentative dates are in mid-May.
Thanks again for your support of our kids!!
Sir Readalot's Castle will be taking over the Bullard Media Center next week as we welcome the Scholastic Bookfair! Be on the lookout for the flyer to come home with just a sample of all the great books that you can find!
The bookfair will be open on Monday , Oct 20- Thursday, Oct 23 from 7:15 am until 7:50 am, and again from 1:00 pm until 4 pm so you will have time to stop in during your conferences. On Friday, Oct 24, we will have morning hours only.
We look forward to welcoming you to the castle next week!!
Last year, the students filled out report cards for the Media Center. They were asked their favorite and least favorite things and one change they would like to see. Many really interesting requests later (no, you won't be seeing a waterslide!), it became very apparent that our kids wanted a space to sit and read. We are most grateful to the Bullard PTSA, and to all of you who supported our Spring Bookfair. Come check out our new Media Makeover!!

Become a Bullard Helen Ruffin Reader!
The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is a state-wide competition about BOOKS! For the 1st time, Bullard will compete in the Cobb County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. So if you ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO READ and LOVE TO COMPETE….this is the club for YOU! Only 4th and 5th grade students are eligible.
THIS IS A BIG COMMITMENT…As a Helen Ruffin Reader, you will need to read at least 8 of the GA Book Award nominee books AND become an EXPERT on these BOOKS! You will demonstrate your expertise by writing 10 practice questions and a summary for each book read. Then, on a Saturday in January 2015, our Bullard readers will represent Bullard against other schools (only 10 students can compete at the county level). Winners at the county level will advance to the regional and then to the state competitions.
For detailed information about the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, see the Cobb County HRRB website at: http://www.cobblearning.net/readingbowl/

If you are interested, fill out an application (located in the Media Center), have your teacher and your parent sign it and return it to the Media Center. We will accept the first 10 students who apply, along with 2 alternates. We look forward to reading with you!
